OCC Valentine

Good morning! Sorry it's been a while since I posted- I've had the flu since Sunday. I was home from work, and reaaaaaly wanted to craft, but didn't feel up to it. I mostly slept, which is what I probably needed. Thankfully, I feel better today! I'm also visiting my family on Long Island- my grandfather's 90th birthday party is tomorrow. Should be fun!!

Well anyway, today is my first official week on the design team at Our Creative Corner! The challenge this week is to make a 3D Valentine's Day project. I've had this cute patterned paper for a while, and was really excited to use it-the soft colors are perfect for Valentine's Day! I covered 2 paper mache boxes with the paper, and glued the smaller on top. I added ribbon and a die-cut sentiment, as well as the paper flower and butterfly. To make the flower, I used a tutorial found here. Takes a bit of time, but it's definitely worth it!

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you play along at OCC!

A CPS Valentine

For this week's CPS sketch, I tried to go a little outside of my comfort zone. I chose papers/stamps that are a little more...umm....romantic? Cutsey? I'm not quite sure what they are, but I loaded them up for a Valentine's-ish card. I like the way it turned out, but would probably change a few things if I were to do it again.

Do you ever craft outside of your comfort zone?

New Look

I just finished updating the look of my blog, so for those of you following through a reader, you might want to check it out!!

Our Change of Art

ps. Today is my 5th Wedding Anniversary!!

For you, with love

I am proud to say that I have made my very first tag today. (which, by the way, is another snow day, so I'm home from work!) I am always amazed at how well some people can get lots of detail onto such a small canvas. I took my inspiration from the necklace below, from Modern Bird for the Etsy Inspired Challenge.

Sorry for the poor picture- this was so hard to photograph! All of the soft colors kept getting washed out, and I don't know how to fix it:

I love how cute the bird looked with the heart wings, and I knew I wanted that to be the focal point. It took some planning to figure out exactly how I wanted it to suspend in the cut circle, and I love how it turned out! Too bad the pics don't do it justice....

Exciting Announcement!

I have some wonderful news to share!! I have been asked to be a part of the design team at Our Creative Corner! The ladies there are so talented, and I am looking forward to working with them and getting to know them better. If you haven't been to the site before, go check it out!!

OCC- "Let's Play Dress Up"

Above is a sketch for this week's challenge over at Our Creative Corner. I love how simple the layout is, and decided to dress it up with satin ribbon, die-cut butterflies, embroidery floss, and rhinestones!! I really love these colors together, especially that green ribbon. Thanks for checking it out!!

Deja Vu....?

No, you're not going crazy. Today's card looks suspiciously familiar. Maybe a little too familiar....
When I made the card posted yesterday, I actually made 2 versions. I wanted to try out the same design with 2 slightly different color schemes. This version (black, white, pink, and tangerine) is for the Moxie Fab World's Bright and Bold Challenge. I like how fresh this card looks with the white background. Check out my post from yesterday, and let me know which you like better!!

Flashback Friday, and an Anniversary!

Amy's Flashback Friday challenge recently went "official" with it's own blog, and I'm excited to participate! The challenge is to post your first card with glitter. Here it is:

Now since my blog isn't that old, my "flashbacks" are all within the last year. Exactly one year. Yep!! Today is my blog's one-year anniversary! I was hoping to do some sort of fancy/cool giveaway, but sadly I don't have anything to give. I might be able to conjure something up over the next week, so keep checking back!

It's interesting for me to see where my blog started, and where it is now. I still am not much of a talker (I prefer to post mostly pictures), but I think it has improved a bunch. I hope to continue to get better at this, and thanks to those of you who have stuck with me. I really appreciate it!! :)

Because I Love You

Hey there, today I'm sharing my favorite card I've made in awhile. Not sure why I like it so much, but I certainly had a lot of fun making it! I was inspired by CASE Study's January muse, Mercy Kerin. Check out the challenge to see her awesome card!

I was inspired by her layout (although my card is not square), use of kraft, and I incorporated some similar details in mine as well. The front kraft panel and the white die cut were put on with foam adhesive- my favorite stuff!! To get perfectly placed bows, I put the embroidery floss stripes on first, then tied separate bows and just glued them on.

My husband is brilliant

For this week's One-Layer Wednesday, the challenge is to incorporate a bare tree. I loooooved the look of the white outline on kraft, then added my sentiment. This is where I hit a creativity block. I still needed one more thing, and since this is a one-layer card, my options were limited. I told my husband that I wanted a bird, and he said "why don't you just cut it out of the card?" BRILLIANT! I used my trusty xacto knife to carve out the bird silhouette, and it was the perfect addition. I think the vacant image fits so well with the sentiment too, because the bird is not really there, hence the "missing." (did I go too far with that concept? haha)

xoxoxoxoxo

I've got another Valentine's Day card. I used this week's sketch from Mojo Monday, and whipped out the girliest papers/colors I could find. I'm not really a fan of pink, so I don't completely love this card (pink overload!), but I still like how it turned out:

Sometimes the titles of my blog posts are so lame, aren't they? I think I need to get a little more creative when I name them. Anyway.....

Today's card is for the colourQ challenge. I really like the colors and went rummaging through my paper stash to find some patterns to match. I love how cheery it turned out!!

OTWC and EIC

Above is part of the inspiration for today's project, and at the bottom of the post is the other. I love the colors for this week's OTWC challenge, as well as the mood of all of the items in La Pomme's shop for the Etsy Inspired Challenge. I cut the box from burgundy cardstock, and layered on the white and tan/kraft. I stamped the sentiment on vellum, framed it with white cardstock, and used foam adhesive for some dimension. I felt it needed a little more embellishment, so I hand cut the butterfly and put it on as well.

Below is just one of the items from La Pomme's shop that inspired me. Everything there is so vintage yet elegant...you should definitely check it out!
