CSS Around the Block

Good morning!  Today I'm sharing a card that was a little more experimental for me!  The Clear and Simple Stamps group project for today is "Around the Block."  The challenge is to use an acrylic block in a fun way to create a background!

I took some photos of the process, although I have to apologize for the poor quality- my husband was out that day with our "real" camera, so I had to use my phone.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't have masking paper (I NEED to get some!).  Instead, I used some post-it note cardstock that I have.  I'm not even really sure where it came from, haha.  Well, as I said earlier, I was experimenting- so I rolled with it.

I die cut "joy," and adhered it to my cardstock, making sure to seal the edges.

Next, I inked up my acrylic block by randomly dabbing on some colors.

Here's what it looked like all inked up:

Next came the messy part. I sprayed the whole thing with some pinkish glimmer mist, and flipped it over onto my cardstock:

It actually looks pretty heinous at this point, doesn't it?!  I was almost certain that I would have to scrap the whole thing and start again.  But instead of giving up, I grabbed my heat tool to speed up the drying process.

I also misted the whole thing once more for good measure :)

I was aware that since I had a watery mess on my hands, some MUST have seeped through my "mask," and I was right.  But you know what? I actually really liked the look!

The colors are a little grungy looking above (again- camera phone pics), so here's the final card again so you can see what it looks like in real life:

The final steps include stamping the sentiment, drawing a thin black border, mounting it onto black cardstock then adhering a textured card base. Pretty cool, and definitely different from what I usually do!

Laura and CSS are also posting today, so please check them out!

  3. Very funky Jen! Love how the colours work together, and you get total kudos for doing something outside your comfort zone and even taking pictures along the way!!

  4. So cool! I love how the background turned out and what a great idea to adhere the die cut to the block to get the lines around it!
