Flashback Friday 6.0

It's time again for Flashback Friday from Tsuruta Designs!

"The first card you blogged about that featured an unexpected find from your home"

This card actually isn't too old- I posted it in June, and you can see the original here. It was fun to use two of the many safety pins I have laying around in a new way.

Thanks for checking it out, and head back to Flashback Friday to see the cards from everyone else!

Paintings

I can't believe it's been so long since I have posted! I feel like I've really been slacking off- but I havn't! This time of year is crazy for everyone, even more so for crafters like me trying to make cards and presents (I made about 100 Christmas cards to send out this year!), and even more so for crafters who are music teachers. Since I teach at 2 schools, I have a grand total of 6 separate holiday concerts. I love them so much, but it is time consuming and physically draining at times!

I don't have any of my usual cards to share today, but I will show you 2 paintings I did recently. They are both available as print-your-own Christmas cards in my Etsy shop, including a free 8.5x11 print-sized jpeg as well. Click on the pics below for a direct link.

Handmade Gift Exchange!

Have you ever been to Craftaholics Anonymous? Linda blogs about all things crafty, and twice a year hosts a handmade gift exchange. I decided to participate for the first time, and was paired up with a fellow crafter in the US.

Through email, I discovered that my partner has 3 kids, a loving husband, collects nativities, and loves neutral colors (with a touch of red!). I tried to incorporate all of these into my gift. I started with this card (blogged here):

And although I wouldn't consider myself a sewer, I was brave enough to actually use my sewing machine for fabric (not just paper!) and made her a small pouch. The tutorial was found here, and I figured out how to alter it so I could avoid putting in a zipper- that would have been too scary! I'm quite proud of how it came out :)

Lastly, I made a necklace. I made the pendant from polymer clay, and it was pretty simple to do- if I get a chance one day, I'll write a tutorial on it. I'll bet you didn't know I make jewelry-I pretty much only post paper crafts on this blog, but my first craft love was jewelry! The 5 Swarovsky crystals represent the 5 people in her family.

I'm looking forward to seeing what I receive in the mail from her!!

Thanks...for always being there

Happy Friday! Today's card (as I frantically try to post this before work) is for this week's Etsy Inspired Challenge. The inspiration shop is Heartsong. Below is a pic of one of her paintings, which I thought would be perfect for a card!

I went with a pretty literal translation on my card. I used acrylic paints to paint the sunburst, then die cut the tree/people from black cardstock. The foam adhesive makes it pop off of the painted background. I also found this sweet sentiment that I have never used before! Here it is all together:

Texture!

Have you heard? Sadly, EBTKS is having their last challenge this week. This news came outta nowhere! I'm going to really miss their challenges.

The inspiration is texture. I incorporated texture into my card in a few ways. I de-bossed the snowflake on the white cardstock, folded a 3D poinsettia (haha, I will never forget how to spell that now!), and used a paper with flocking-the pinkish color in the striped paper is super fuzzy!

CASE Study

This is my first time playing along with the CASE Study challenge. It's so much fun! Above is Heather's card, which is this week's inspiration. I chose to stick with the layout, since it is so pretty. Instead of 3 flowers, I chose to incorporate 3 Christmas ornaments. Here's the result:

I even tried to tie my bow like Heather! A little tricky to see in the photos, but the background paper is a pearly white. Thanks for stopping by!

OLW Inspiring Minds

Sorry for the terrible pictures today! I've been wanting to get (or make) a light tent for indoor photos....any suggestions?

I really love this week's One Layer Wednesday Challenge- to be inspired by one of the cards from this site. Here's the card I chose:

I love the idea of using an ornament for the O in the sentiment, so I did the same in my one layer card:

When I was finished, I decided it needed more color, so here's what I did with it:

Flashback Friday 5.0

It's time again for another Flashback Friday from Amy's wonderful blog! This time, the task is to re-post the first card made with a new-to-you technique. For this card (originally posted here this past February) I used an emboss resist technique. Instead of inking over my heat embossed design, I chose to use watercolors and paint a simple (and quick!) tree:

If you havn't yet, you should definitely check out the Flashback Friday and participate- it's always so much fun!

Noel

Ok, I think this is the last card for today! :)

Again, this one is for 2 challenges. The layout came from this week's CPS challenge, and the idea for the poinsettias is from the EtsyInspired Challenge. This week's shop is Queen of Tart Cakes, and I found these cookies there:

So pretty, right? (By the way, it took me three tries then a trip to Google to figure out how to spell "poinsettia"- and it STILL looks weird to me!)

I cut the flowers from red toned vellum, and used eyelets for the centers- which also attached them to the front panel. Then I went back in with gold puffy paint to add the little dots. Thanks for putting up with all my posts today, and Happy Thanksgiving (eve!)!

2S4Y Laura's 66

Sorry for the massive number of posts today- I'm trying to get this all done before work since I'm leaving to go visit my in-laws as soon as school lets out (half day!), and I won't be back til Sunday. This next card is for this week's 2S4Y challenge, using the sketch above. I made this card for a special person, and I will post about it sometime in the next week or 2. Until then, you'll have to live in suspense!

Wreath of Joy

Hello again! This card is actually for 2 challenges. I made it with the layout from EBTKS in mind, and it's also my 2nd attempt at a card for Embellish Magazine, using the colors found on their blog. I really love how this one came out, and it was my first time using chipboard letters!

Color Cue {10}

At the Wplus9 design blog, the challenge is to use any member of the design team's chosen colors to make a card/project. I was instantly drawn to Kerianne's colors- lime green, dark green, white, and black. Click the link above to check out the other color palettes....I'm also in love with Elise's!
