OCC just because...

Check out the inspiration for Our Creative Corner's challenge! I loved the idea of a bird card in the wintertime, so I put a few on mine! I also liked the black, white, grey and red color scheme in the above photo, so it's incorporated as well.

(cute little cage there, right? 50 cents at Michael's!)

ps. The card is similar to this one I made about a year ago. I had taken a lot of time to design the die-cutting file, so felt I should use it again!

Snow Day!

I got a wonderful call yesterday. It was my superintendent, announcing that tomorrow (which is today) school will be closed on account of snow! I always get that same joyous feeling I did as a kid when school was cancelled. I love my job, but who doesn't love staying home? Especially when it makes extra time in the day for crafting!

This card is for the 2nd Jingle Belles challenge, "Have Yourself a Merry LITTLE Christmas." I'm still not completely sure of what "inchies" are, but from the way the challenge is described, it seems like they are just paper/cardstock that measures 1" square. I cut 5 squares each in 2 colors, and lined them up on the bottom of the card:

CASE Study 21

Hey there! This week's challenge at CASE Study is to get inspired by Mercy's card, below:

I chose to use some of my favorite elements from her card in mine. First of all, I kept a similar layout. I simplified by taking out some of the background pieces, but the overall look is the same. I kept the plaid as well, piercing it along the edge with my (unthreaded) sewing machine. Lastly, instead of the brads, I put 3 pearl stickers along the left side. Here it is, all together....

(Don't you just love the color of that green ribbon!?!)

OLW35: Yellow

I've got another one-layer card for you all! The One-Layer Wednesday challenge this week is to use yellow. I really had no idea what I wanted to do, except for the scalloped edge and inked yellow. I did that first, then went rummaging through my stamps. I chose this floral image, and although somewhat cheery, I thought the sympathy sentiment was still appropriate. Yellow is often a symbol of friendship, and anybody who has lost someone certainly needs that.

Winter White

For this week's Tuesday Trigger, I chose to make a wedding cake similar to the one in the inspiration photo. I used felt for the cake, and embroidered the details (including the French knots to adhere the paper flowers). I debated adding a sentiment, but decided against it in the end. Thanks for checking it out!

New Challenge- Lawnscaping!

There is a new challenge- Lawnscaping- that focuses on using Lawn Fawn stamps. Their first theme is "All About Snow." I used their snowflake stamps and sentiment to make my card.

First, I stamped onto silver cardstock and embossed in white. The sentiment is stamped in silver, and also embossed. For the snow, I cut 2 layers of white, glittered the top edges, and adhered the top layer with foam tape. It's all finished off with thin satin ribbon. Check out the details in the pics below:

colourQ happy birthday happy birthday

I've been meaning to do this challenge all week, but ended up putting it off until the very last minute! I adore the color scheme, and was having a hard time figuring out how to do it justice. I'm so glad I waited, because I woke up today knowing exactly what to do! I love making rolled paper flowers, and this time I cut it out with a scalloped-edge scissor... it gives it so much more character! I think I'll always do that from now on. Here's the finished card:
